Bladder Cancer Survivor

I might not be writing this, if it was not for Dr. Steven Citron.  Not a day goes by that I don’t think about how different the outcome might have been, if Dr. Citron had not been accessible on New Year’s Eve day, when an emergency room doctor said to me, “You have a brain tumor and we want to operate tomorrow”.   

Although I don’t remember many details of that day, I do remember feeling a senses of relief after Dr. Citron arrived.  His personable bedside manner, quick assessment of my situation, and knowledge of next steps, were reassuring to my family and me.  

With the New Year’s holiday approaching and because the hospital I was at did not have a Brain Tumor Center, Dr. Citron suggested I go home on seizure medication and he arranged an appointment with a neuro-oncologist at another hospital after the holiday weekend.  On Monday, we met with both the neuro-oncologist and neuro-surgeon Dr. Citron recommended.  After reviewing my MRI, they felt that my tumor was too diffuse to remove and opted to do a brain biopsy to better understand my tumor’s genetic makeup.

Dr. Citron is my hero and not a day goes by that I am not grateful for his guidance.
